Basic Properties of PE

Properties of PE are affected by molecular weight (MW), density, molecular weight distribution (MWD), and types of co-monomer mainly.

Molecular weight (MW)
The higher MW is, the better mechanical properties are in general. On the other hand melt viscosity gets higher, so the processability become worse.

Molecular weight distribution (MWD)
MWD affects flowability and mechanical properties significantly. Wider MWD PE shows good flowability while narrower MWD PE has better mechanical properties such as tensile strength, impact strength.

Density

Higher density PE has better tensile strength and rigidity, but worse impact strength, transparency, and environmental stress cracking resistance.
